Special MPA rehearsals!

Don't forget that our Concert band members (and a few fellow Show Band members) will have a few special pre-MPA rehearsals after school this week and next.  Rehearsals will begin at 3:30PM and end promptly at 4:30PM.  Parents; please try to pick up students as close to 4:30 as possible. We have had some after school rehearsals that have kept students and directors at the school till close to 6:00 waiting on pick up.

This weeks rehearsals will be on Tuesday March 1st and Thursday March 3rd.  Next week we will meet on Monday March 7th.

We will have special guest judges this week so please be prepared to play your best and receive critique from our judges.

We perform at MPA (First Baptist Church, S Perry St.) on Tuesday March 8th at 2:30PM in the main sanctuary.  Parents can attend the MPA performance if they would like.

*We will be finished with our sight reading by 3:30PM*

After school practice cancelled

Due to the impending weather we have cancelled after school rehearsal for today.  Please coordinate transportation for this schedule change. 

BTW/FAME Art and Sole 5K and Fun Run

We want to remind everybody about the upcoming 5K and Fun run being hosted by BTW and FAME.  The event is being held on Saturday March 5th and we still want to see more participants.  Whether you choose to run, walk, skip, or jump; everybody can participate and help support the amazing programs at BTW.  Please share this flyer with your friends, family, work, church, etc.

Reminders for this Week!

Parents and Students,

Just a few reminders for this week:

- Only Seniors will be counted as an excused absence for attending the Basketball Game tomorrow morning at ASU.  If you do attend, you must be back at BTW on or before 12:00pm and you will need your ticket stub to be considered excused absence.  *Boys Basketball team will be excused and traveling with the girls as well.

-Tomorrow is the due date for MPA Permission forms.

-Tomorrow is the due date for Trills and Thrills (Atlanta, GA) trip permission forms as well as the $50 deposit for the trip.  *A $50 deposit is required for every person attending the trip.  If you have concerns for financial reasons please talk to Mr. Darby and Mr. Hall.

-Tomorrow the Concert band will have after school rehearsal to prepare for MPA.  *Tennis team students have been permitted to miss due to their Tennis match.

*If you know of any parents/students who are planning to apply for BTW or any of the magnet schools, remind them that the deadline for applications to be received is this Friday!!!!

MPA (Music Performance Assessment)

Music Performance Assessment (MPA) - 3/8/16

This years MPA will be held at First Baptist Church on South Perry Street.

BTW Magnet will leave from BTW after 1st wave lunch to head to the church to be able to watch some of the performances before our warm up time.  Students who drove to school that day will drive their vehicles to First Baptist. Students who do not drive will ride an MPS school bus to drop us off at the church.  After we finish performing students who drove to the church will be dismissed as this will be the end of the school day. 

Those students who would typically be picked up at the school can be picked up at First Baptist Church.  We will be done no later than 3:30PM.

*Students who typically ride home on the bus will need to make plans to be picked up at the church.  We will not be able to have an MPS bus return us to the school, because they will all be operating their normal routes at that time. *

Warm up time: 2:00PM
Performance time: 2:30PM
Sight Reading: 3:00PM

Parents are allowed to come for the MPA performance in the main sanctuary if they would like to attend. 

*Attached is a copy of the permission form incase it didn't make it all the way home to get signed. Forms are due back to Mr. Darby by 2/23/16.

BTW Band Auditions

We are excited to see applications rolling in for our prospective BTW band students entering BTW next year.  Each applicant who's information has been received by Mr. Darby and Mr. Hall will be receiving information in your email and mailed to your house.  You can also access our BTW band audition packet attached to this post. Band students leading in Basketball

Congrats to our boys and girls basketball teams for moving further towards this season than any other teams in BTW history.  Montgomery Advertiser has highlighted two of our concert band seniors (Erin and Thomas). Go yellow jackets!!!!

Week of 2/8-2/12

2/9 - Concert Band will have after school rehearsal from 3:30 - 4:30 to continue rehearsing music for our upcoming MPA performance.

2/9 - Jazz Ensemble will have a performance this evening for the Kiwanis Club.

2/12 - Concert Band scale test (f# minor) and playing test on Shenandoah .

Reminders:

-If you still have not turned in your money from the World's Finest Chocolate, money is due ASAP!!!!
We still have 21 students who have not brought in their money.

-Permission slips for the spring trip to Atlanta are due ASAP

-$50 deposit for the spring trip is due 2/23, remaining balance will be due 3/16.  This payment schedule is set for anybody attending the trip: performing student, non-performing student, and chaperones.

District Honor Band Information



Here is the schedule for those of you participating in District Honor Band.  The registration fee for District is $15.  We will be staying in the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Opelika.  The cost of the hotel room for each student is $55.  So each student participating is responsible for paying $70 as soon as possible to cover their portion of the trip. Please keep in mind you will need money to cover dinner Friday night and lunch Saturday.  Breakfast is provided at the hotel.  You will need to plan to be picked up by your parents following rehearsal #3 on Saturday afternoon at 4:30.  We will leave school immediately following 4th block Friday so please come to school prepared by having all the clothes and belongings necessary for a 2 day trip.   We're looking forward to wonderful trip!!

Spring Trip Permission Form

We are sending home a permission slip form for the spring trip with all band students today. However, if the form doesn't make it all the way home you can print out the form attached here, sign, and return it to Mr. Darby and Mr. Hall.

Saturday April 23rd, 2016

-Depart BTW Magnet HS early AM
-Trills and Thrills Music Festival @ Marietta Performing Arts Center
-Six Flags Theme Park – Atlanta
-Return to BTW Magnet HS around midnight

The cost of the trip will cover the cost of the charter bus, entry into the music festival, entry into the theme park (group discount) & 1 meal coupon to cover a meal in the park.

*Anybody wishing to purchase more than one meal, extra snacks, play carnival games, etc. will need to bring additional spending money.

Performing Student Full Trip - $100.00
            -Festival $51.00 (includes park ticket)
            -Bus $35.00
            -Meal Coupon - $14.00

Chaperone/Non-Performing Student - $88.00
            -Park ticket $39.00

            -Meal Ticket - $14.00

*If you already have a Spring 2016 Season Pass to Six Flags you need to show Mr. Darby/Mr. Hall proof of season pass before we can give you a discounted trip.

Deposit of trip ($50.00) due by Feb. 23rd

*If a student/parent has a financial concern that could result in the student not being able to participate please contact Mr. Darby/Mr. Hall so that we can help to arrange some financial assistance to allow full band participation
